HUNTERESS – Synthpop Moonlit Torchsongs is the parallel world of Composer/Performer Laura Cannell.
In 2020, Boomkat (the shop & label) invited musician and composer Laura Cannell to be part of their Documenting Sound Series, making her debut appearance as Hunteress with a suite of synth-pop, moonlit torchsongs recorded at home in Suffolk, England, where she swapped her typical recorder and violin in favour of synths and vocals making “a stunning, properly surprising entry to our Documenting Sound series”.

Best known as an improvising instrumentalist and composer Laura Cannell has performed throughout the UK and Europe, appearing on national and international radio, and has worked with performers such as Lori Goldston (cellist for Nirvana) and recently collaborated with the writer/comedian Stewart Lee. She is now recording as Hunteress which marks a turning point for Laura, a cue to conjure a mix of spellbinding synth dervishes and achingly raw, crepuscular hymns.

Hunteress has had airplay on BBC 6Music Recommends, BBC Introducing and Resonance FM (The Wire Magazine’s Show)
